  1. The full budget data used by the ABC has been made available via the district website: http://tinyurl.com/46rhsux

  3. If the budget was easy to read, given BEFORE the budget hearing (is this too hard to ask--> how many months did the board have to look at this?) and did not waste money, THEN I WOULD BE HAPPY! Really, they are HIRING MORE STAFF in this economy? And they ignore their own budget committee--what a joke!

At least someone finally posted the budget, thanks for that, even though it just depresses me more.

  4. So, who is running?

  5. Not really agreeing they ignored the Budget Committee. I watched all the meetings and feel there was more common ground than disagreement.

  6. Megan, Thank you for stepping up!
    Who else is running?

I have heard a rumor that Laura Rogers is leaving, is this true?
She has done a nice job for our district.
if this is true and now both Howard and Laura are leaving this is an opportunity to reach out beyond our borders and bring in some of the innovation that is occuring nationwide.
Our teachers are wonderful, but wonderful teachers also know that to stay relevant we need to always be looking ahead, as we teach our children.
I also have heard that Howard is telling everyone that there is a lot of mis-trust out there and this is why they stopped the strategic plan. It saddens me that our educators would fall for this.
The majority of citizens of our great district have trust and respect for our teachers, it is simply Mr. Colter that has eroded trust within his domain. I do hope building leaders and our teachers can remain immune to his poison and continue to do what is best for the students of our district. Our students deserve a strategic educational plan, our students deserve educational leaders such as Laura Rogers that continually strive for the betterment of student education.
Laura if you are leaving because of a perceived "mis-trust" I fear you have fallen trap to the bubble world you work within, for this is not the belief and feeling of the majority of citizens of this district.
Mis-trust is better defined as a lack of faith in the ability of Howard Colter.
I urge those considering a run for the school board to begin strong considerations of finding his replacement sooner rather than later so our district can begin to rebuild from the damage he has caused.
If it is true that Laura Rogers is leaving, I wish her well and hope we can find someone as strong as she has been in the face of the changes she has worked hard for over the last few years.

  7. Hello Anonymous - Thank you for the kind words. There are four of us running for the two ORCSD at-large seats.

I know nothing about the circumstances surrounding Laura Rogers' resignation. I would truly like to understand why she decided to leave.

Regarding the mistrust issue, I can tell you if elected to the School Board, I will be open, honest and, continually, focussing on what is in the best interest of our students. I take this role VERY seriously and have weighed running for years. Mistrust is NOT an option. District leaders and the Board must work together and foster trust. Otherwise, we simply cannot move forward.

I look forward to your support and want to hear more suggestions from the community at large. I am all ears!!!

  8. Talk about mis-trust ? and you people come on this blog and don't have the guts to sign your own name? Anonymous comments are not even worth reading.

  9. Al, I would agree if I didn't see what happens to those that do sign their name. I need to ask questions, and want to be able to ask questions, but know that those who ask are questioned.
By asking without signing my name I am able to protect my self from attack, and ridicule which is worth it if I do actually get an answer.
I have written to the board and spoken to the board and both times were met with such disdain that I now feel as if staying anonymous is the only way I can feel as if I won't be attacked.
I believe in the past this blog was very nasty, but for months now have seen a different vibe. How about we just try to not attack at all, and just be able to ask questions and hope that answers can be provided with the intent to help each other?? How about we realize that some feel best not getting into the fray, but do deserve the right to ask questions??
This whole mis-trust thing is a waste of time, and as the commenter above mentioned, I really don't get where it is coming from?
Why is it if we question the status quo it is seen as a lack of trust?
Why is it we have to be so suspicious?
This mis-trust thing is a manufacutured veil of distraction to deter us from getting answers, and I for one hope that all can see it as the label it isn't.
And yes, I am not signing my name.
I applaud those in the past who have the bravery to do so, I am just not that strong.

  12. Dear Anonymous poster of Feb. 1, 2011:
I certainly understand your reluctance to publish your name. Ridicule, and harrassment have no place in a forum that invites questions to be asked. Last summer, I posted my personal information and suggested that I would welcome any questions either by phone, e-mail or over a cup of coffee. Cream and sugar if you wish, and no disdain.
