As reported by Roni Reino in Foster's today, an online petition has been signed by 174 people asking Jim Kach to resign.
DURHAM — At least 174 community members have signed a petition asking a Oyster River School Board member to resign after some say tweets he made were "disparaging to women, gay people, people of color, Jews and Muslims."
The tweets, made several months to more than a year ago, first become a community topic when Lee resident Ruth Sample stumbled upon them online when looking for information about board members. After reading though many of the online comments, Sample spoke to other community members and then approached the School Board asking for Kach's resignation, saying his comments were offensive.
At the July 18 School Board meeting, many community members stood up and spoke out against member Jim Kach for comments and retweets he made on a former Twitter account.
"These tweets have created what many ORSD students describe as a hostile learning environment for them in our schools," reads the petition. "Although Mr. Kach regrets that people have been offended, he has not retracted his comments or apologized for his views."
