Statement Regarding Concerns Surrounding Principal at ORHS
(Oyster River, 4/20/11) The Chair and the Vice-Chair of the Oyster River Cooperative School Board would like to reassure the community that active steps are being taken to ensure that a principal will be in place for the 2011-2012 school year. Options are being discussed by the superintendent and his staff, as well as stakeholders in the high school and broader community. The board and the administration are fully cognizant of State laws and our NEAS&C accreditation regarding applicable personnel requirements. Our paramount concern at this stage is to do what is best for the students of the district. The school board is committed to moving forward decisively and with all due speed.
Henry Brackett, Chair
Ann Wright, Vice-Chair
One of the decisive actions should be to contact Dr. Richard. He is certified in the state of NH as both a Principal AND a superintendent and he would make for a great compromise candidate over this issue. www.timrichard.net
ReplyDeleteDonald, your enthusiasm for Dr. Richard is commendable, however out of fairness to him and deference to due process I urge you to not solicit and/or distribute a resume outside of a formal search. If the last search was flawed, think how irregular it is for an individual citizen to solicit and distribute information about a personally favored candidate outside of a formal search. This would amount to a Kangaroo process and I trust the board would not tolerate it.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a statement on Dr. Richard's qualifications or appeal; just a reminder that in a position such as this (especially during such sensitive times), procedure matters. If you respect Dr. Richard as much as you seem to, perhaps encourage him to submit his credentials through official channels when a search is announced.
I see no reason someone can't advocate for a solicitation once the search process comes back around.
ReplyDeleteMr Colter said that he personally contacted Justin Campbell to apply for the job.
Recruiters call people all the time even if they are not looking for a job.
I am curious about the statements made by the Board leaders above:
ReplyDelete"Options are being discussed by the superintendent and his staff, as well as stakeholders in the high school and broader community." Who are the members of the broader community? When and where are these conversations taking place?
"moving forward decisively and with all due speed" I hope decisively means all complaints to the Board are heard loud and clear. A rushed process will not work.
I agree with you. But encouraging someone to apply for a job "when the search process comes back around" is different from soliciting and distributing his resume publicly via a blog, outside of a formal search process, as a way to accelerate, circumvent, or otherwise bias the search - especially after a legitimate search just failed in such a highly controversial manner.
ReplyDeleteIn this particular event, it can look like the search was deliberately failed so Dr. Richards' appointment would be assured. This is why I said, out of fairness to him, to direct any interest through to the official channels rather than distributing his credentials on this blog.
