Strategic Plan Discussion Video...

OK. It has been a while since the last post. In the time since the elections, the biggest news to happen with ORCSD is that the board has approved to move forward with a strategic plan. However, the below video shows that the discussions around that can become unravelled very quickly. This recent meeting on May 20th shows a board member abruptly getting up and leaving in protest.

Would you vote for this person next year?

  1. Regardless of what happened during this past meeting, I believe that time is money. Substantive debate on important issues affecting our children and schools is important. Personal disputes and rehashing previous issues should be handled off line and documented when a Board quorum exists.

Also, I ask the Board to consider allowing paid District employees to leave after presenting their updates. If these employees choose to stay, they certainly may. If there are questions that come up, they may be reached via phone. Again, let's respect the use of valuable time as well as monetary resources.

Finally, I believe a strict agenda should be followed when administrators present. There should be a structure followed and this will help speed matters along in these meetings.

    My two cents...

  2. If you watch the entire video, you will see that the board member who walked out actually had a legitimate argument. The vice chair made an accusation and he wanted to address that accusation. If the chair doesn't want to give time to discuss the accuation, then she shouldn't allow them to be brought up at all!

  3. I would absolutly vote for him. The process for getting the stratigic plan committee started is flawed right from the start now without a fair discussion on which board members should be on the committee. But this is just what I expected from this chair, she has already let slide several disrespectful comments by a new board member to district employees who work very hard for our kids.

  4. The board member who walked out definitely had a right to refute the charges made by another board member. The hypocrisy of those board members who ran on campaigns which touted "transparency" in all board matters, is really obvious in the process to form this Strategic Planning Committee.

  5. Instead of staying and representing his constituents on business before the board, Mr. Taylor lets his emotions overcome him & he storms out? (Yes, storms . . . note the equipment dangling along the way . . .

I wouldn't tolerate this from an elected official working for me!

And I will post my name. Instructive, isn't it? that those showing support for this behavior are 'anonymous'
